I have never been a runner. It’s my least favorite way to workout. But the miles and miles of endless shoreline in Costa Rica may have changed my mind a little.
Barefoot running on soft sand is one of the hardest workouts and the best things you can do for your body. Good health starts at the feet. Ask anyone who works with the spine.
Most often you will think you are suffering from knee, hip, shoulder or back pain. Chances are the problem isn’t these areas. Something is going on with your feet and ankles.
So whether it’s a barefoot run or walk on the beach, a barefoot yoga, dance or pilates practice, try to do something for your body without shoes.
Get your toes, arches and the souls of your feet to do some work. Let the small muscles and ligaments fire up to stabilize you.
As we age our balance centers go, so working out barefoot can help with this. You don’t want to be the one stumbling off a curb, and if you do you want to be able to catch yourself before you fall flat.
I guarantee you, it is the best workout for longevity. Give it a try and let me know if it helps
